Is this cruel to take a puppy for a long drive?
My partner has decided to take his long service leave at the start of November so we are planning to go away to visit family n friends in another state for 6 weeks. We have a 16 week old puppy is it cruel to take him with us in the car as it will be around a 30 -36 hour drive, we plan on driving through taking turns unless we find a pet friendly Motel which really aren't that common, we would stop to stretch etc every 4 hours. Is it ok to take him or is it cruel we don't want to leave him with friends that long or board him in a kennel any suggestion would be appreciated. His okay in the car but they have been no more than an hour drives.
answer: It's not cruel if its done correctly. Take breaks at least every 4 hours, make sure he has water available during the whole trip and make sure you feed him on his regular schedule. Don't leave him in the hot car and make sure he can go potty when he needs to. Understand that he's going to be very hyper when you finish your trip, and enjoy!

its not cruel as long as you stop and stretch every now and then you will also have to feed it and supply water the whole trip or it could be classed as animal cruelty he will also want some toys as he is a puppy and may become bored easily you will have to pat him every now and then.

If you take water, food, and stop to let your dog walk around and go potty every two hours (or every hour, depending on your puppy), then no. It's not cruel.
It's not cruel. I took my puppy on a 10 hour drive during hurricane season.

Just take plenty of breaks like you said you would & take bottled or gallon water, his bowl, his food, crate, treats, fav toys, pillow & blanket for when y'all stay at a motel, some plastic bags to pick up his poop, & harness. Check out some traveling tips in books or online. Put 1 of y'alls shirts w/Ur scent on it in his crate to sleep or travel with.
Try sitting in the back seat w/him. This will make him more comfy too.
A radio on low can soothe him & just taliking or singing to him will make the trip easier for y'all. Have Fun
