Questions about Veterinarians ...?
I am 15 years old in 10th grade and I want to become a vet. Could someone answer these questions for me ...... I am still learning . I love animals and helping them and I own a bunch already.
1) What exactly does a vet do?
2) What classes should I take now in high school to help me become a vet ( I took biology honors and I am now taking Anatomy and Physiology honors)
3) For, college, isn't it like 4 years of college and 4 years of vet school? Do you need to intern?
4) Is it true you have to learn about and work on ALL types of animals in vet school? If not, then what animals?
5) Do vets have to work with things like reptiles or giving snakes checkups?
6) How much, on average, do vets make a year?
Thanks! Whether or not you can answer all of the questions, please just tell me what you know. Thanks so much!
answer: You should be asking your local vets this rather than the general public at YA!
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com What you don't know is that's critically important is:
- it's harder to get into vet school than it is to get into medical school
- you need to get to know local vets and work at a vet's office to get the vet's assistance in getting into vet school and get the vet's invaluable guidance.
1) a vet does much the same as a medical doctor. Some are general practitioners; others are specialists. There are orthopedic vets. There are large animal vets. There are small animal vets. they offer the same care for animals that medical doctors offer to humans.
2) ask your local vet.
3) they do the same 4 years of college before 4 years of vet school, just like medical doctors. As to internship , I'd have to contact my local vet school to ask about that. Find the closest vet school to you and ask them this.
4) yes it is true, just as it's true in medical school. You have to study and work on all the same possible patients you might need to treat out in the world. All the students who want to care for small animals when they open their own practices MUST do their time in Large Animal and most the vet students who come out for farm visits with my vet from the vet school, are going to be small animal vets, but they get to castrate my bull calves and preg-check my cows.

5) That's the same question .. . in school they have to deal with reptiles and snakes. Once out in private practice, they can choose to not treat some types of animals.
6) that varies depending on whether they do lots of surgery or not, just like medical doctors. It also varies from city to town to rural areas, so we cannot give you a good answer to that question. In my area, one vet probably makes more than others because he overcharges all his patients. The farmers try to avoid going to him. You can ask that question of the vet shool you contact. -!-
