Is blue buffalo, blue wilderness, or taste of the wild best for my dog with demodex mange?
He is a 5 year old shih tzu and we tend to keep him more on grain free foods, however, I dont know which of the three is best for him. I constantly hear pros and cons of each food and all I want to know is which would be best for him personally. My vet recommended Iams naturals....... I dont feel comfortable with P&G products, just my opinion. Whatever my shih tzu will be put on, my 1 year old mutt (most likely Lab/Basset) will be put on it too.
Taste of the wild isn't that good as blue buffalo or wilderness. Go with the Buffalo. TOTW is definatley better then foods like purina etc..but not even close to as good as wilderness/buffalo is.
Nutro Ultra Holistic food is great. i have a great dane and a miniature poodle who both eat it and my poodle has a thick shiny coat and great dane is energentic. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Blue buffalo has what look like animal hairs in the kernels. Its your choice but just read ingredients, buy something that is natural.
sheesh isn't it ashame how veterinarians are recommending BAD quality foods! Iams is AWFUL and it irritates me to the core hoe ignorant most vets are.
Blue Buffalo is an all around good quality food...but I personally prefer the Blue "Wilderness" formulas (it comes in duck, chicken, and salmon formulas). This line of their foods are much higher in meat content, and the grains are of a higher quality as well. It's a little more pricey, but I think it's worth it. As for the flavors, just see what your dog prefers! And remember, there's nothing wrong with mixing it up a little! (feeding duck with chicken, or chicken with salmon - you get the idea).
But yeah, your vet recommending Iams over Blue is just flat out SAD to me. Ugh, if only these veterinarians would pick up a book based on good quality nutrition for dogs. You're right, P&G is the most un-trustworthy company IMO and their foods contain wheat, corn, and by-products!

**to "WHOME"...I'm sorry but ALL Nutro foods are just as bad as Iams. Nutro is low quality for a premium price. Read the ingredients and you will see!
In my opinion, a raw diet for dogs with issues is ideal. If I had to go kibble, it would most likely be EVO or Innova. Try to go for made in america products.
When my dog had Demodex, I first put her on Natural Balance, and she's also been on Wellness until I discovered how much grain was in it, and she is now on Taste of the Wild.
Taste of the Wild makes her stool firm and consistent, never runny, less bowel movements. Great skin/coat.
All the foods you listed are great. You can also add supplements to your dogs diet, like Salmon oil, flax seed oil, Vitamin E, etc.
