How old should pug puppies be before taken home?
I was just wondering how old puppies are usually when you take them home from a breeder.

8 weeks AT THE EARLIEST! even better if they are left with the mum untill 10 or possibly even 12 weeks ..... they need to be with the litter to learn early socialisation skills and bite inhibition .....
dont purchase a puppy if it is under 8 weeks old! a good breeder will already have started socialising and potty training the dog. xx

Most puppies are weened at eight to ten weeks. Usually when they are eating well on their own they can go to their new home.

Typically 8 weeks. In my opinion, I would wait till about 10 weeks just so you know they can eat solid food and so you know they've socialized enough with their mama, and their litter mates!

*** I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYTHING UNDER 8 WEEKS !!***

When I breed puppies and they are ready, i never let them go till they are in the 12-14 week range.

What I now is, that all breeds, even mutts needs 8-10 weeks before they're ready to be separated from its mother and siblings, also from its mother's milk. Because if a puppy below 8 weeks is separated from its mother, it would need its mother's milk and below 8 weeks the mother's milk would be like an important food for them. Also breeders needed time to adapt the puppies with weaning food (to make them get used to harder foods) so that they won't find a big problem for food when there's no milk.

10 weeks at the earliest is ideal. Puppies go through a natural fear imprint period from 6-8 weeks, and phobias can develop VERY easily during that time if their environment is changed and they are under stress from being away from the mother and litter. Their socialization period starts at around 10 weeks and lasts through their 16th week, this is the ideal time to get a puppy and start attending positive-based puppy kindergarten classes with them to maintain good socialization skills.
