whats all you need to get a guinea pig?

any reccomended cages or anything too?

also can u show me a pic or ur guinea pig? if you have one
Firstly, I'd recommend adopting your pigs, as the pet stores often sell sick or pregnant pigs. Go to www.petfinder.com and search for guinea pigs up for adoption in your area. By adopting, the overpopulation problem is reduced.

For a guinea pig, you must get it a companion or they can die of loneliness. You might think that's not possible, but they really can lose their will to live. I'd recommend a Cubes and Coroplast (C & C) cage ( see link below for instructions on cheap construction), as ALL pet store cages are too small. NO AQUARIUMS!!! VENTILATION IS BAD in an aquarium! Gunea pigs need at least 7.5 square feet, it is the minimum! Don't forget a separate food dish and water bottle for each pig and a hiding place for each pig as well. You should also get an extra hidey hole as a "neutral" place for the pigs. For bedding, the cheapest way would be to use aspen bedding with a layer of CareFresh on the top. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Also, do NOT get a wheel or a ball for your guinea pig. These WILL hurt your guinea pig's back, they are not supposed to bend that way. Don't forget veggies and Vitamin C. Guinea pigs also are not suited for heights so do not make any cage higher than two levels, they can fall or jump and break their backs resulting in serious, serious injury or death.

For food, no seeds or colored pellets are okay. Get high-quality timothy-based guinea pig pellets.

Take good care of your pigs!
If you are getting just one guinea pig, the cage size should be at LEAST 7.5 sq ft. You will also need to get the bedding, food, and a house for inside the cage or something for them to sleep in. DO NOT get any wheels or exercise balls, they will hurt your guinea pigs back and feet. My guinea pig personally loves hay, carrots, and apple slices, so those might be some good food options. It is also good to have something for them to chew on, because their teeth grow and if they get too long the guinea pig can become sick. They need their nails trimmed, but you can see where the blood runs so dont cut there. I take my guinea pig to a groomer because then they can cut them, im always afraid that i will hurt her. But yeah, thats about it ....
you need a guinea pig a cage big enough for he/she to run around in a hutch to hide in guinea pig pellets a bag of Timothy hay vitamin c supplement fresh green veggies at least three times a week water bottle that hangs from cage and a couple of books on how to properly take care of them because if you don't know how to properly take care of them bad things happen ... and expect them to make a lot of noise they make about 12 different sounds and some are loud
well first you need a cage to put it in

you can find them in any petstore

you can etiher buy him a fancy one with toys and two/three levels or you can buy him a more simpler cage; the point is the cage should be big because the guinea pigs can grow up to 18 cm

you can also keep him in an aquarium like i do

you also need to get him sawdust as a bedding witch you will have to change every week

you can buy him toys like for example a stuff animal (not bigger then him tough) a mirror, a ball (these toys are many if you buy just one guinea pig; they get bored verry quickly if they are alone) so toys are a necessary thing if they are alone

you will need to get him the necessary food like carrot, cucumber, lettuce, apples etc (so fruits and vegetables) and dry guinea pig food, hay etc

you will also need to provide him with water if you don't give him vegetable and fruits

also you need to give him a lot of attention and you have to spend a lot of time with him especially if he's alone pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

guinea pigs get verry easily depressed when they are alone

handle him every day at least twice a day

feed him three times a day and if you have the possibility to let him run a few minutes trough your room or garden do it

he will be verry happy then
You need a cage, food, water, water bottle, food containers, a tunnel, sawdust, chewing stick, toys, a hamster brush (guinea pig brushes are usually too big, weird right?) , and some bedding.

Hope I helped!!!: D
Food-Oxbrow Cavy Cuisine is best, but its also the most expensive. I like the stuff that comes in a green bag, it says something about timothy hay in the title. In all, any piggie food that doesn't have bits like corn or seeds in it, and timothy hay is the first ingredient, its fine. Also, feed them veggies high in Vit.C every day!

Cages-Really, the cage is where the piggie will probably spend most of its time. C & C cages are THE BEST! They are cheap, and way bigger than any pet store cage. Look on WWW.Cavycages.COM for directions on how to make them. Using fleece for bedding is also more economical and cleaner.
