I have been researching rats and have almost persuaded my Mum that we could get rats, and I wondered if there was a difference between normal and dumbo rats. My mum preferred the dumbo rats because of their cute ears, but are they bigger and are they looked after the same way? Also, do they have the same kind of temperament?

There are only a few differences between the two ...
Dumbo rats have the different shaped ears to a fancy rat.
They have a longer life span as theirs is between 2-2 1/2 and the fancy is up to 2 years.

The ears. They are not any different size wise, some are bigger than normal rats, some the same size, some smaller. They have the same temperament and the care is the same too. The ears are the only different thing about dumbo rats.
Just the shape of their ears. They're the same temperament wise and they're no different in size. Some dumbos are larger than top eared rats, some are smaller.
