I did not cleaned my hamster's cage for more than two weeks coz I didn't know that she is pregnant. She gave birth two days ago to five pups and they sound healthy. I was adviced that I can clean some wet spots on her beddings but only to the farthest spots from the cage. Is it safe to remove the wet beddings and change it with fresh beddings? thanks.
It's your fault for not being responsible and cleaning the cage - which you should have done. If you clean the cage now, the mom will feel threatened and eat them. Until the babies start to walk around the cage, then you can clean it. It is about the time they get cute and start to get fur:)
I wouldn 't clean the cage because if you accidentaly touch the baby hamsters, the mom will smell a weird scent on them and most likely eat them, or kill them. I would wait, but if you really wanted to, u could put a little fresh bedding on top of the old bedding, without touching the inside of the cage!
Hope this helps !!!!
i wouldn't clean the cage for another week if i were you
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com that is if you still waqnt to have the babies hamsters
there is a high risk that the hamster might eat the babies if you clean the cage
also don't touch the babies for at least two weeks, the hamster might eat them as well ... if she senses human contact on the little hamsters she will eat them
I would suggest that you leave it until the pups open their eyes and start roaming around.
IF you clean it now, she may feel it is a threat to the pups; and she may kill them.
It may be a bit messy, but she WILL survive it.
