my hamster smells gross ... and she hasn't cleaned herself and i read online giving hamsters bathes is bad. also i saw that a sand bath will clean them off. Were can i get this Sand?
You can either use sand from pet stores marketed for chinchillas or wipe it with an unscented baby wipe. Although some hamsters do not mind baths, most will freeze to death from the chill of the water.
>> Important: Do not use a household cleaning wipe!
It's best to leave her alone to bathe herself, and just make sure that her cage is clean. Bathing hamsters is a bad idea, as they can get sick from the water, even if it's warm.
At most, you should only clean a hamster if they accidentally got something messy on them, like if something bad spilled on them.
I wouldn't recommend the sand bath, as it can get in their lungs and harm their breathing. Usually only chinchillas take sand baths.
I do not suggest you give your hamster a bath. REALLY DON'T GIVE HAMSTERS BATHS! This can be very bad for hamsters because it will give your hamster wet bottom. I would suggest you go to Petsmart, Petco, or maybe K mart for chinchilla bath. Remember to get a dust pan for bathing to.You might be able to find hamster perfume, but I don't think they make it anymore so I would try to find chinchilla bath. If this does not work, try to find no oder bedding. That way there wont be a lot of odor to rub off on your hamster . Hamster owner 4 years
