my hamster has hard stuff in her hair on her back (it's not wet tail or anything ... it looks like hair gel and it's about an inch above her tail). I have no idea what it is or how it got there. how do I clean it? I know hamster don't like water. would a wetted (clean, new) toothbrush work? I used to use a toothbrush to brush a longhair hamster I had many years ago ...
this hamster has no bottom teeth and her top teeth grow crooked and I'm pretty sure she has * other * handicaps if you catch my drift. she pees while she sleeps and sometimes ends up rolling in it, so I'm thinking that's what happened but I haven't smelled her to check XD
also anyone know any good kibble or block hamster food? the food I was given with her is almost out and since she has no bottom teeth she can't chew so no seeds. I need to be able to grind it up for her.
Do you have a hamster spray? Back when I had Roborovski Hamsters, I used to spray them after I cleaned their cage. It's safe to spray on them, even on the eyes and nose. It used to make them a little wet and then with a soft toothbrush I would gently straighten their hair out. They had short hair anyway, so tangling wasn't much of a problem.

If your hamster has a habit of rolling around in her pee while she sleeps, try fruit smelling sand for her. Basically you choose what you want her to smell like (apple is my favorite) and place that sand in the sleeping spot. The sand tends to quickly absorb pee.
As for food, I've never come across a hamster with missing teeth (poor thing!), But you could try a ripe slice of apple. It's relatively soft so it should be easy to eat.
Well it was good of you to buy a little deformed hammy. As no one else may have.
But when you bought him you should have taken him to the vet so he can prescribe some things.
Get a damp flannel and wipe if off and if it doesn't come off TAKE HIM TO TE VET! PLEASE!
Thats a great idea a toothbrush thats wet! I'm getting a syrian hamster in 19 days I am so exited !! I don't know about the foods SORRY!!!
Hope I helped !!!!??????
Yes you could use a wet toothbrush, thats a great idea! Also you can get these pet wipes from pet shops (well I know mine does) and i wipe my pets down with one every week. They're good too, you could also get a folded wet tissue and pull whats in her fur out with the tissue in your fingers.

Also harry hamster food? I used to have this and its full of chunky hard bits to get their teeth down which would be good for the hamsters crooked teeth, and it also only has peanuts but not many seeds. Why don't the teeth on the bottom grow? Their teeth never stop growing, so thats really strange. Describe the type of food you'd need, if you needed a soft food however, cheaper food is better, such as the wilkinsons hamster food. I've tried so many with my hamster and now he is on the Burgess Supahamster stuff. Its really good, you should invest in this one!
I hope I helped.
