why is my hamster acting like this?

My chinese dwarf hamster has been breathing heavy and heart beating fast for the past 8 hours, ive tried to feed him he wont take it but yesterday he did, i tried giving him water and he just takes a little bit of it can someone help me or give advice he's 18 months old and i want to make him comfortable.
hamsters have VERY fast heart beats which is why they don't live long. they live about 1-2 years maybe 3 if you're lucky. your hamster is probably old and dying. when hamsters are about to die they do odd things. usually they wont clean themselves and their fur gets very ratty. they wont eat or drink as much if at all and they may act very confused (walking around in circles, running into things, trying to do things they never did before) when my last hamster died she was dirty from not cleaning herself. she wouldn't eat or drink and she kept climbing up the bars of the cage and falling backwards until she died.

hamsters usually aren't the best pets if you get really attached because they die easily and fast so you'll have your heart broken every year or so if you keep getting more
Did you just recently get the hamster? If so its best that when you do purchase a new one you let it be in its cage for a week to settle in. But as for it acting like that does he seem like hes lost weight? Because if they start to eat less and not drinking water it may have wet tail. Check if his bottom is wet from diarrhea. If it is then its wet tail. Check on him everyday to see if hes losing weight and if he has a wet bottom. You can purchase wet tail drops from a pet store its best to keep your eye on him for wet tail because its very hard to cure a hamster of wet tail unless you notice it very early. But if he doesnt show signs of wet tail your best bet is to take him to a vet.
