what happens when a hamster is giving birth?

do you let it give birth by itself,

or do you have to bring it to the vet?

and what do you do after that?
They don't need help unless they are squealing in pain with every contraction.

Just when you know shes deffinately pregnant just make sure there is NO male in the cage. Otherwise she'll be pregnant within the next 18 hours and this is dangerous for her because she'll be extremely tired all the time as shes making milk for the first litter and trying to keep her energy for the one shes carrying.

Any how, when she's given birth, don't touch the babies, she'll do all the work as long as you don't scare the mum or make her feel threatened otherwise she will eat them.

I hope I helped, good luck.
Leave it alone. After it gives birth, let it nurse the babies. Don't touch the babies or else your scent (human scent) will stay on them and when the mother finds out , she will eat them. Hamsters will eat babies that do not have their own scent (that is what I know).

If you must move the babies to a new cage or whatsoever, use chopsticks. Use NEW pairs of chopsticks, do not use the pairs that have been used before. Metals ones are suitable. Gently and carefully pick up the babies. Make sure they do not slip. It can be quite difficult so ask for some help.

* Okay, well, using chopsticks would hurt a little for the baby hamster's brittle body. This is why you should know how to control the pressure of the chopsticks. I do not know any other way to carry the babies except the chopstick method, I 'm sorry but I don't think you have to move the babies anywhere. I hope it helps:) *
Just leave it alone. I've had 2 hamsters that have given birth, they know what to do because of their instincts. After they give birth, DO NOT touch the babies. Give them privacy and once they are old enough to walk around and open their eyes, you can either keep them or give them to a pet store. Good luck!
