I want to switch to fleece for my piggy's cage but im a little confused how many times I have to washt the fleece. Do I was the fleece then dry, then wash it again then dry and then wash it then dry it for the thrid time . Or do you simply just wash it once and dry it three times. With each time being washed should there be a cup of vinegar added? Please Help!!!
I have the perfect answer for you, check out this page:
http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/bedd ... It has very good info on how to start using fleece!
And I use fleece for my pigs. I washed my fleece three times-I washed it three times in a row, then dried it once. And my fleece works perfectly. You don't need to dry it three times.
Also, you don't need to add vinegar at all at first-vinegar helps take out the urine smell, so if you have not used the fleece yet in the cage, don't use vinegar, just use regular detergent, but make sure there is no added fabric softener.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Once a week, take fleece out (make sure all poo is off it) and only wash it once with some vinegar and then dry it once, then put clean fleece back in. The first time you get fleece is the only time you need to wash it a lot in a row.
(Oh and don't forget you have to have towels or a mattress pad underneath the fleece.)
The web page I gave you talks about all of these things with more detail.
Okay, first, with the brand new fleece, wash it 1-3 times in the washing machine. Just use dry soap, never use fabric softeners or bleach or anything (even when it's been used). When you dry it, don't use any dryer sheets.
Once it's been used, if you have two guinea pigs, wash it every two days. Shake it out once a day and then change the next day. Make sure to put old towels underneath the fleece. When you wash it after it's been used by the pigs, you may add a 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the load but don't put any dryer sheets or fabric softeners.
Unless you have allergies to the bedding, I don't suggest using fleece. It's not nearly as nice as it looks.

If you must use fleece, you'll need at least 2 cage liners. You'll end up changing the liner every day or two. When you wash it, just shake out the poo/scrape out the mashed up poo, wash it with a load of towels (why waste water on just one cage liner?) using HOT water, detergent and a scoop of "Borax" (it's in the laundry soap section of Target/Walmart/grocery shops). Dry it with the towels. Once. The Borax will neutralize odors, the hot water will kill ickies. This also works for cloth baby diapers ;-)
Hello! I suggest using a beach towel underneath the fleece towel to absorb the urion. Change once a day shaking out the towel into a compost bag or garbage bag. Wash normally. Viola!:) Good luck!
