My hamster is 2 years old, he has this eye infection and I think it may be from the cage (the cage is old) So I am buying a 10 gallon tank with a cover for him, but im worried he might get shock. Should I move him to a new cage? And if so, how to introduce him to it.
Your hamster may be a little attached to it's old cage. So I would suggest putting something from his old cage that would make him feel at home. For example ... pieces of his bedding that has his scent on it or something else from where he sleeps or spends a lot of time by. Slowly as your hamster adjusts, you can take the things out if you think it's affecting his eye infection. (Keep his old cage just in case though.) If you have a wheel that you can move around I would recommend that too. I understand that you are buying a tank but you can get a brand new medium sized cage for just 20 dollars. With a cage that has bars, fresh air can easily go in and out so that the cage won't get all stuffy. Personally, if my own eye is irritated if I blow air into it it feels better, so that cage may be better for your hamster. The chose is yours ... Good Luck!:)
its not like your introducing him to a new hamster its no big deal

Normally I would think that you would add some of the used bedding with new bedding, but the germs in it might be causing his eye problems. You should put little vegetables around the cage 2 make him feel comfortable and put in old toys that were in his old cage after cleaning them w hot water. Make sure that you arent using pine or cedar beddingbecause if you are that could be the cause of the infection. Hope this helps and hope yourhamster enjoys the new cage.:)
Um ... he's a hamster, and I'm pretty sure that a new cage isn't going to phase him any more than his old cage did. Stick him in there and watch him. He'll probably just begin living in it like he always has. He'll make it home quickly, don't worry.
It shouldn't affect him, although a tank isn't the best idea-as the glass walls don't allow proper air circulation . This will make the tank smell more.
Put some of his used litter in there and he won't know the difference.
