How do you keep guinea pigs cool in the summer?

I have two guinea pigs Biscuit and nibbles I have only had my guinea pigs for about 4 weeks and it's getting very close to summer! What can i do to keep then cool?.

i am aware that they can get heat stroke and die ... what do i do if one of them does get heat stroke?

> They live outside

> Both short haired breed

> Is going to put ice cubes in water

> And out water bottles in cage

> The cage has got a huge run and off ground sleeping area
You're doing well so far, but are you doing this to the bottles in the cage:

Filling them 3/4 full of water, freezing them, wrapping a tea-towel round it and placing it in the cage? If not then do that.

Its going into winter in england, but you could do what I do:

- Make ice cubes up, but inside put a chunk of fruit in it.

- The frozen water bottle idea i said above.

- Put them in the shade or put a towel over the cage.

- You could also put a fan outside the cage pointing towards it but don't put it on so high it blows the bedding everywhere. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I just read it again and i saw about moving the hutch. If its cooler in there then yes you could.

I hope i helped.
Wait, do you live in the United States? Because it is currently fall here, not even close to summer.

Anyways, I highly DON'T suggest putting them outside. Guinea pigs not only do terrible in hot weather, but they have a really hard time adapting to cold as well. In addition, wild animals like foxes can hurt and even kill your guinea pig , even if you think they couldn't get inside the cage. Also, I don't know if you realize but by exposing your guinea pigs to the outside, wild animals carrying rabies can pass it to your guinea pigs; even if they don 't actually get inside the hutch.

But here are a few ways to keep them cool in summer:

-Umbrellas around habitat

-Cold veggies for them to eat (cucumbers, bell peppers, carrots, lettuce)

-Frozen water bottle with an old sock cover (the pigs like to lay on it)

-Cold towel that's been in the fridge/freezer overnight
you could put an umbrella over the cage to keep out the sun, and frozen waterbottles in the hide and make sure they always water
Bring them in the house or risk them dying from a number of things.
Um, Actually Its Getting Very Close To Winter, What are you talking about?
