can I hold my baby gerbils yet?

I have been a good little Taylor and haven't touched them at all. When they were born they were all pink and little. I read you were supposed to hold them until 10 days, or when they start growing fur .. they re getting fuzzy and blackish now and they are like WAY bigger then they were. they are a week old already!: D awww!! do I still have to wait? my god I am soooo anxious!
Gerbils make excellent parents and actually rarely reject or eat their young as a lot of people on here seem to imply that most rodents do ....

I have handled my current litter of 4 since they were about an hour old (the tunnel they were in collapsed and i had to dig them out; i was worried they'd suffocate) - now they are 2 weeks old and doing great!

If mummy and daddy gerbil do not act nervous or aggressive with your presence then you are safe to pick them up - just be careful; gerbil pups can be wiggly!

Try rubbing some of the bedding on your hands, or even handling one of the parents first if you are still a little nervous, just so your scent isnt overpowering

If the parents begin to thump their feet, run around frantically, go to protect the babies or try to attack you then obviously they arent ready for you yet so just give them a little longer:)

Good luck!
