are my sons gerbils hibernating?

last night they were running round normally in their cage - and this morning when my partner was leaving house he walked past cage and realised not popped up as normally do - so tapped on cage nothing then put hand in said very cold and felt stiff. so ive come home to see if they have died and one has moved from where it was and now still looks dead but is on top of all bedding - ive moved them into living room as rest of house is freezing - could they just be hibernating - picking my 5yr old up ssoon from school and dont know what to do
"Gerbils do not hibernate and are diurnal."

Gerbils aren't supposed to hibernate, so it is probably because they are cold. Try putting rice in a sock and heating it up for them to lie next too, or find some other way of warming them up. It is good you have put them in a warmer room . Remember that gerbils are naturally desert animals so it is important that they don't get too cold.

Hope this helps, maybe tell your son that the gerbils are sleepy or hibernating. If they don't improve after trying to warm them up you had better take them to the vet. How old are they?
If you have a source of heat like a radiator or an oven, stick the cage near it, not actually ON or IN it though, just stick it near enough so that it starts to warm up, if they're not up and running around after an hour then you might want to start working out how to break the news to your son ... I don't envy you the task, I have a 2 year old who loves his hamster so when he passes I'll have to explain that to him and I have no idea how!
Gerbils don't hibernate. They probably have hypothermia, you need to warm them up asap. This happened to me years ago when I was a kid, we had to wrap a towel round a hot water bottle and lay the gerbil on it, he was fine in the end.
Yes I personally do believe that they are hibernating because of the coldness in the house however if the heat is turned up in the house they will come out of that stage imminently:) Hope I Helped!
Just tell him they're hibernating, but you should go to the vet and get that checked out. Mine don't hibernate. Ever.
yes
Sounds like they are dead ... pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

It's not all bad news though, if you cook them up, they are delicious!
