I got my hamster in June and he died today ... He was only about 5 weeks old when I got him from my friend's litter. He was doing just fine yesterday; he was running on his wheel all day. I clean his cage every week, feed him, and give him water. When I got home today, I found him laying on his side, paws close to his body, eyes and mouth half open and his fur seemed to be a little yellow. Usually his fur is brown w/a strip of white on the bottom (dwarf hamster) and the white had yellow mixed in. I don't know what happened!! Any ideas?: (
You can check the food you have been feeding him, it could be moldy. I know here in the the summer we have a big problem with weevils and some kind of moth that does love hamster food and to breed in it.
Also was there any bug spray or poison used in the vicinity of its cage, being such a small creature it does not take much for it to get poisoned.
