I Had my female gerbil for a while ... she was kinda orange color but not to dark.
I had my female for a while and over the time she has lightened ... Shes now albino ... all white with red eyes ...
I heard that every animal needs a partner. So that they wont be sad or lonly.
So i went out and bought a male (Brown colored). I had them for a while and i wanted them to breed to have 1 litter because i heard they would be nicer and more loveing to each other like a family. But when i first brought him home they fought and fighted ... My female looked horrible she was bleeding and loosing her fur and became messy looking. So since i didnt know what else to do i put my male in another cage ...: (After a while i had to put him back ... I put him back and they got along really well ... They now sleep together and groom each other ... Then like a month later i But ever since i got them they only tried breeding once ... That was one day i saw them breeding ... They bred all day and night then the next day they didnt even try to breed ... They were like normal and stuff ... So i thought she was pregnant .. . But i waited and waited and waited but she wasnt getting fatter ... and like a month or two later she had no babbies.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com And now its been like a month or so since the last time they tried breeding again.
And now they wont do anything. They love each other and groom and sleep together but they WONT breed.
Please if you could tell me any thing then please do.:)
The only reason you wanted them to breed was so they would get along better. You said they are getting along just fine, so why are you so worried about it .
Are you sure their not the same sex? Also, if it is a boy and a girl maybe their not attracted to each other or maybe the female just can't get preg.
When they say every animal needs a partner they mean a friend! A cagemate of the SAME sex. Not a love partner lol
Idiots these days
Try to get something from the store that make them bread, like hormon shot or something.
Try the other gerbil
"I heard that every animal needs a partner" What your heard is WRONG !!! Not every animals needs a partner, take the Syrian hamsters for example, they prefer to live alone and if paired with another hammy they will fight until the death. You WANT your gerbils to breed? Did you ever think about what they want , how you feel if you were basically forced to have kids huh?? Please take the male out and get him neutered and get the female spayed, what your doing is not right, you have absolutely NO experience with breeding small animals. If they love each other already then why would you breed them?!? Obviously you need to STOP and think about what your doing. What about the babies? Are you going to sell them to some idiot that can't take proper care of them!?! ?
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I have no clue where you are getting these so called "facts" from, do some credible research!
For a start you are EXCEPTIONALLY lucky that both your gerbils are still alive. Not every animal can be kept with company. Some animals will kill each other if kept together and adult gerbils cannot be introduced safely to each other without a splitcage, they are extremely territorial and the majority of cases, would fight an intruder to the death. You should never introduce animals to each other, or contemplate breeding, without doing your research first.
Also, how old is your girl? A good age to breed a female gerbil is between 6-18 months, and if your gerbil has lightened that it sounds like she could be too old. Most female gerbils become infertile after 18 months, and if not, they may still produce pups but not enough milk to feed them and have larger pups, in smaller litter sizes, that may get stuck during labour. Your chances of losing mum or litter, or both, are much higher if your gerbil is older .
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com It sounds like for your girls sake it is a VERY good thing that they haven't bred. Injured, or sick animals would find pregnancy and labour very hard - you've also got to bear in mind that this would shorten your girls lifespan as well. If your gerbils are from a pet shop its also a very bad plan to breed them, as you could well be breeding in genetic flaws and deformities.
Would you be able to home all the gerbils? You'd have to separate out the male before she gave birth, as otherwise they mate straight away and you'd have two litters. However, raising a litter on her own is very hard for the female. You'd have to separate out your babies before 8 weeks, otherwise they will inbreed - and you need to separate them into successful gender groups - no more than 4 for boys, no more than a pair for girls to prevent declanning in later life. You need to vet potential homes very carefully, as otherwise your babies could end up being fed to a reptile or kept in unsuitable conditions, such as on sawdust, and in tiny cages with no room to burrow.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Also because your gerbils were not properly introduced, you do run a greater risk of them declanning. You MUST intervene if one gerbil persistantly chases the other without stopping to do anything else, such as dig, eat or chew. If any blood is drawn you must also separate. The most dangerous sign is where your two gerbils curl into a ball together - this means they are trying to kill each other and you must separate.
