i got one for a pet from school. and he is so smart and doing really cool things so i wanted to take pictures but i was afraid my cameras bright flash would ruin its little eyes.
You are fine to use your camera's flash . Breeders take pictures of their rat pups from the moment they are born and forward. Their eyes sight is their least effective sense, so your flash will do no harm. If you are still concerned, place the babies in a little container with fluff ( a Halloween pumpkin, a harvest basket whatever, theme it) and place it under a desk lamp, your well lit kitchen, your sun filled porch, wherever your light is good, and take a picture without a flash.
