I obtained a baby rat (fancy), he's a male who seems to be scared of other rats. However, he's VERY human friendly. He has a chest cold (I got him from a pet store; I know shame on me) so I am taking him to the vet, and scrapping the money together to get him Baytril. However, he also has a tumor on his neck, and I cannot afford his surgery. I will NOT return him to the pet store, he'll be killed . He's VERY human friendly, sweet, never bites, and loves to be cuddled. I live in Chesapeake, Virginia 23325 and I NEED someone to either adopt and take care of him, or if someone knows a rat rescue. Sadly a number of rescues have gone under in the last few years. Best I can say it to talk to your vet and ratteries in your State: Dante bRats Rattery, Finnvarra Rattery , & Rats of Keona.
The chest cold may be a function of his bedding and lack of good cage cleaning. Try changing his bedding to Care Fresh and make sure he has plenty of food/water.
I really wish I lived near you because I would so take him! I have had 4 fancy rats who lived well past their age and to this day I still have 1 fancy rat (also afraid of other rats) and 1 dumbo rat. Poor guy .. I would suggest not takeing him to the pet store , but just keep trying I hope it workss well for you!
