I am going to ask my parents for a hamster on Christmas. But before they said that I will have to pay for the next animal I get myself. I think I could ask them if they could buy like the cage and the hamster and then like a couple toys and I could buy the rest of the stuff like food, bedding, other essentials things. First I need to know how much the stuff would cost, what kind of bedding I should get, things like that.
You ' re so lucky you're getting a hamster! But anyways, I researched a TON about hamsters and all the stuff they need, so I hope this helps you!
-Hamster: About $ 10. Are you getting a Syrian or a dwarf hamster? I'm going to ask my mom for a Syrian, because they're more friendly and easier to tame than dwarfs.
-Food: I would get Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Food for Mouse, Rat, and Hamster. It's only $ 9.99 for 5 pounds, and they're lab blocks, so your hamster can't pick through it and only eat it's favorites. Also, they come in big blocks, so your hamster has to gnaw on it, which helps grind down it's teeth. You should get a ceramic bowl to put the food in, because your hamster could easily tip over a plastic one, and then you 'd have to clean it up.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com -Bedding: If you have enough money, I would get CareFresh, because they're the best, but they tend to be kind of expensive. If you don't want to buy CareFresh, you can get Kaytee Aspen Bedding & Litter, and you can get 3200 cubic inches for $ 7.99.
-Nest box: They're usually about $ 3.99, and you should definitely have a nest box so your hamster can hide in it when it gets scared, and sleep in it and stuff.
-Toys: You should get your hamster some chew toys, so it's teeth don't grow too long, and definitely a hamster ball, so it can run around outside it's cage without being in danger. It should be at least 11.5 inches in diameter for a Syrian hamster. In case you're wondering, it's usually around $ 8.99, but I don't think you really need the price, since your parents are paying for the toys. ^. ^
-Cage: Sorry, I don't really have a specific cage, because I didn't research that (I don't need one, since my sister had a hamster). But here are some things to keep in mind when you ' re shopping for a cage:
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com -It has to be AT LEAST 24x12x12 (inches, by the way)
-The bars can't be more than 1/2 an inch apart (for Syrian hamsters), because or else it could escape)
-The cage should have a relatively deep base so that the bedding won't be kicked out.
-Wheel: Sorry, I don't have a specific wheel for this, either. But I would recommend the Silent Spinner, because it's silent (duh), so you won't be disturbed at night. By the way, it has to be at least 8 inches for a Syrian hamster. Also, you shouldn't get one with wires, because it could damage it's paws, and it's paws could get stuck between the bars.
-Water: You should get one of those bottles with the spout thingy that they can drink from. It doesn't really matter what brand you get though, because it's just a water bottle.
-Litter box: If your hamster pees in one corner, you should get one of those corner litter boxes, because it'll make it easier to clean the cage. Instead of having disgusting bedding stuck to one corner of the cage every time you clean it, you can buy a litter box, fill it with litter, and scoop out the used litter everyday. Oh, and a litter box is $ 3.49 (about).

Total: $ 41.50 (not including the cage, wheel, water bottle, and chew toys) But the cage should be about $ 50-60 (I'm just guessing here), the wheel about $ 5-10, the water bottle about $ 5, and the chew toys about $ 3. So, I guess that would be about $ 120 (rounded).
I hope this helps!
Check out Petsmart or Petco online for prices. Different places vary and it depends on what kind of hamster, the style of cage and accessories. But generally speaking you can get everything you need and including the animal for under $ 100. Sometimes even Wal-mart has good deals on hamster cages. Just make sure the bar spacing is close together so there isn't any escapes and do you're research online first, it can save you money in the long run.
a hamster is like $ 30 max, my poet store sells them for $ 20.
If you have money saved up then you should buy a ferret, they go for $ 75 - $ 125 depending on the store. You would love them and you can also play with them. You cant really do any rough playing with a hamster so they tend to get boring after a while

A descent cage with bedding and toys is kinda expensive. I paid $ 100 for my ferret cage but that one has two levels. If you decide to by a hamster I am sure they will give you a good deal if you by a cage that same day . Just let them know you are on a budget
