Can anyone adopt a rat?

I am taking care of a Fancy Rat-Male. He's currently sick with a chest cold, and suffering from a tumor (So, we think. He has a cut over the bump, so it could be an infection.) Either way we ' re taking him to the vets tonight, and they are going to give him Baytril. I am going to get him as well as I possibly can, but if I can no longer finacially care for him if he is inbred or has a terminal illness. I want the best for him, and have spent many nights with tears and praying to just get him better.

Pros-Human friendly, loving, will come when you call, not rat agressive but does show fear of others. He's rather young.

Cons-Seems to be inbred, and gets sick easily. He will potty on your bed (xx) He's a squeaker.

I only ask if you can, and we decide to is please let me see where he'll be staying and if he can have his rat plushie he sleeps with.

I live in Chesapeake, Virginia.

If he is inbred or terminally ill, do the right thing and put the poor thing out of its misery. It sounds like it's in a lot of pain and isn't living a good life, It sounds cruel to kill him, but believe me it's way more humane than letting him die of a tumor or something else.
i dont know rats are highly forbittin where i live and if you have one you can go to jail ... isnt that stupid
