my rat will only eat while shes in her cage, she ate some eggs while on my shoulder one morning ... how do i get her to eat other foods from me?
Some rats are just shy. In my experiences I ' ve found it difficult to convince any of my rats, no matter how bonded with me they are, to eat on me or in another room outside of their cages.
By nature, rats are curious and being in a new or less familiar environment than their cage can be terribly distracting for them.
The best way I can suggest for you to get your rat to feel more comfortable eating while outside her cage would be to attempt to do it more often. The more comfortable she is with a particular location or situation, the more willing she will be to let her guard down and have a snack.
If she won't take food from you right away when shes out, try having her out on your shoulder for a bit while you're watching TV or something. This will give her time to settle.

With rats, trust is key. I have found that only after I build up my rat's trust did he start to eat from my hand, but keep in mind that rats, like humans have their own personalities .
