can i give my hamster a bath?

i saw on wiki how that u can but u SHOULD only do it if they are really really dirty and stinky but i just want to do it for fun, can i still do it? is it dangerous?
It is NOT dangerous and you are NOT weird or cruel for wanting bathe your hamster. It can be a lot of fun. It may dry their skin or it may leave them too wet but if you are cautious and sensible neither is likely.

Bathe without soap, or a MILD shampoo. The water should be warm not hot, but aim for warmer over cooler because they have a high body temperature than us and can handle it. A big bowl is the best place for a bath, with a warm towel and treat waiting. Lower her slowly into the water and let her swim around. It will likely be frightening at first and she may poop. This is not uncommon. My hamster used to poop every time she had a bath (Saturdays) in the first month, by the end of her life she was fearless, no poop, a power swimmer who groomed well afterwards and would snuggle in a towel while she ate yogurt treats from my hand. It was a lot of fun and it did her no harm.
No, definitely do not do it just for fun! Not only can it drown, but getting it wet can get it sick-it could get an ear infection if water gets into its ears, it could get sick from just being wet and cold ... Hamsters wash themselves and unless their is something toxic on their fur that cannot be wiped off with a damp towel or something, only then should you bathe them-and do it very carefully. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

It's good that you did some research, but look at more than just wikipedia.
What are you like 8? Don't bathe your hamster for fun, that's just wrong. If it's dirty, use kitten shampoo and be very careful. .. dry it off well so it won't get sick, and make sure you get all the shampoo off. DO NOT use anything other than kitten shampoo unless your vet tells you too, or it's made for HAMSTERS.

And I mean if it's REALLY dirty.
I wouldn't recommend it. Also, wikipedia is also not the most valid website sometimes!

I bathed my pet gerbil once, and it went crazy, It ended up biting me, and running to hide under my bathtub (I bathed it in a bowl on the floor) Also, it's fur didn't dry properly and my gerbil ended up getting very uncomfortable and dying ...

Don't do it unless its necessary, and if it is, try and find an alternative like a babywipe for sensitive skin. Be gentle with your little pet!
Never put you'r hamster in a full pool of water.

You could trigger a heart attack for you'r little creature. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I suggest you buy a cheap cleaning cloth (you should have one in your cleaning cupboard)

Wet it with luck warm water and wipe dirt away.
Hamsters are desert animals so do not put them in water. They are constantly grooming themselves so a bath isnt neccesary. If you want to clean them however, take a soft cloth ( damp) and wipe their fur carefully.
You can give them a bath. Just be sure to completely dry them off when your done. Also, you don't want to make the bath too long. Just a quick scrub. One last thing ... make sure if you use soap it's all scrubed off before you put him/her back in the cage.
its fine to give him a bath just make sure you dry him off so he won't get sick and make sure the water is not too hot or too cold its like bathing a baby just be gentle not too much soap a mild soap and be careful of the ears and eyes
... for fun? I dunno about you, but terrified, skittish, wet animals are not my idea of 'fun'.

Hamsters clean themselves, there's absolutely no need for a bath.
They don't need a bath. They can drown easy. If you just want to then buy cat wipes. They are gentle enough you can just wipe them don't wet the head or ears.
Definitely Not. It can very easily drown them. They clean themselves by licking themselves much like a cat does.
I wouldn't give him a bath "just for fun" but if you did make sure you don't get his lil head or ears wet and we sure to keep him warm while drying.
No you shouldn't and can't the hamster will drown itself because of the small animal. Hamsters clean themselves.=)
