Hi, sadly my landlord is pants and is not fussed about the house having house mice in the floors and getting in the kitchen.
someone said to me that mice do not live where rats are!
so! Idea ....
if i got a pet rat would the smell of the rat scare the mice out. its now getting to the point that they are keeping me and my partner up at night, scratching and rustling around.
or is there any way to get rid. i got traps but there clever! they found a way of licking the choc spread off the trap without triggering the trap

It may help, but rats are just as noisy as mice!
Try a diffrent kind of trap, there are tons out on the market right now.
If you have a friend with a cat, ask to borrow the cat sometimes. Works wonders. When we have squirrel problems in our attic, we bring our cat inside and put her in the attic and let her work her magic. The squirrels always disappear for at least several weeks.
just buy some traps. Make sure they are the humane kind that just trap the mouse at the end of a tube-like thing. Mice loooooove cake so put some cake at the end and before too long you will have caught yourself a mouse.:) drive somewhere with it and release it into the wild. See, no point buying a pet rat if you can just use a little trap.
lee a rat could work but i would get 2 cats (who like to hunt etc) and let him to there job aswell as traps (anything plastic will not work as mice and rats are wary of new objects also try leaving food in somewhere but use poison as the mouse will take it home and kill more then one mouse/rat
just the presence of a bigger rodent in the house will keep the mice out and rat's are not noisy, they are also very clean animals and one of the best pets you can have, i have rats and the mice have not come back to my house for over a year

I would say get a cat: P they'll actually scare the mice.
