Ok so I bought my hamster October 18,2010 and I just noticed he had some black bumps. I think they might be sores by scratching at it to much. Well I personaly don't have any clue what the black bumps are. They are close by each other (theres 2). Oh yeah don't say bring Caramel (my hamster) to the vet because it is way to much money for me. If they are kind of on his hip area, like near his back legs sort of thing, then it's most likely completely normal-it's something called Scent Glands or Hip Spots. To tell for sure if they are Hip Spots, I found a website that had pictures. If it doesn't look like this, maybe you should call the vet, just to ask them without physically going to the vet.
If it's on the back legs, I do believe male hamsters get 'bumps' on their back legs . I seem to remember reading something about it, and it's part of puberty. You could call a vet and see if they'll answer your question, some will over the phone. I'm not 100% sure, but as I said, I remember reading something about it. Best to double check, maybe read up on some hamster sites.
