Long story short my two girls pulled a Shawshank Redemption and chewed a giant hole in their cage that we can't fix. For now they are in a giant plastic storage tub until we get another cage. They've always only had a water bottle to drink from but there's no way to put a water bottle on the tub so I just put a big bowl of water in there for them. I am cleaning it out a few times a day since they get bedding in it but I haven't been able to tell if they've been drinking from it and I don't want them to die obviously.
So will they drink from the bowl ok? I've never had experience with rats and water bowls, only bottles.
Thanks
They shouldn't have any issues drinking from a water bowl. The hardest thing to get small animals used to is drinking from a dripper!
You may be able to hook up a water bottle to the tub using stick on velcro-stick some to the side of the tub, and wrap the other side around the bottle.
The hardest part of having a water bowl is the constant cleaning-they will continue to pollute the bowl with their bedding, their foeces, etc.
Yes its fine i had the same issue when i stood on the water bottle breaking it lol

They drank from a bowl of water just fine.
Was still preferring to use the bowl even when i replaced the water bottle so they must obv like it:)
Just make sure it a sturdy bowl they seemed to also knock it over whilst playing: P
the sort answer is most times no, but they have been known to fall in and drowned. Keep the bowl at the same height as the wood chip, in other words all one level. this way it don't need to climb up the side of the bowl. it is very rare but it has happened
They should definitely be fine, especially if you're cleaning it out so often. That's great. My rats always loved water bowls (so I gave them a bottle and a bowl) because they would play and bathe in it. It's cute:)
they should be okay. they may think its a treat , like they have their own bath. i had to switch mine to a bowl because they chewed their bottle up and they played in it=)
