My 10 month old pet rat, Damion, has a problem with his left eye. The area around the eye looks a bit swollen and there is dark red brown liquid (blood?) Coming from it. I thought he had just scratched himself on something , but it is not getting any better after two days and looks like the red-brown liquid (blood?) is still fresh. His behavior seems to be normal. Does anyone know what this may be caused by and how to treat it?
i am very good with guinea pigs ... but i have never heard of something like that ... i think maybe the best thing you could do ... is go to a vet. and see what the problem is .. . he will give you professional answers then a website haha ... im not exactly sure ... but i think it may be some sort of pink eye maybe? i really dont know. just bring it to a vet OR a petstore .. . and have them examine it.
I would try a clean wash cloth with warm water as a compress keep it clean and always clean the cloth after every use. Try that for a day but if there is no improvement take him to a vet that specializes in small animals. Rodents tend to have get eye problems due to injury or respiratory issues. I don't have a rat but i do have a chinchilla who had scratched her eye and i used the warm wash cloth every two hours or so and it cleared up in a day, though she didnt have any blood leaking she did have swelling and torn a little bit of skin on the inside of her eye lid. Also make sure the cage stays cleaner then normal so there is less of a chance of germs getting back into the eye. Hope this helps and good luck with your lil dude.
Why in hell do you have a pet rat ?????????
