How can I tame my guinea pig?

I recently got a guinea pig (two days ago) i picked him up and when i went to put him back in his cage he bit me really hard. Any advice or websites on taming a guinea pig? Also he isn't drinking a lot of his water or food ... only hay. He's about four months old i think ... Thanks!
Young guinea pigs are generally just very shy. Keep petting him and holding him to get him used to human contact. Reward him with fruits (or whatever your guinea pig likes to eat, mine loved apples) when he's calm and easy to manage. Don't reward him if he bites you.

For hay, I didn't put any of it with the bedding. I generally just mixed a bit of hay in with his food, and he wasn't devious enough to just pick out the hay and not eat the regular food. He hated corn kernels though, so if you have mixed feed, as long as he eats the pellets, he should be fine.

And at four months old, they really just don't drink that much. If the water level hasn't gone down at all, make sure it's at a level that your young guinea pig can reach easily and that the spout isn't too big. Maybe try a hamster bottle?
Your guinea pig bit you so you would release him quickly. They do that when they want to go. You made a mistake by getting one guinea pig. Guinea pigs cannot live alone. They are social animals and need a friend of the same gender. They get lonely living alone and can end up having depression. The first thing you are going to have to do is to get him a friend. This will make him happy and have more confidence. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Your guinea pig is still new to his home and is trying to get used to it as well as you. He will not feel safe to eat or drink with you watching him and it will take time before he develops a routine. There is nothing to worry about as he will soon start to eat and drink. The main thing is he is eating hay. Ensure it is Timothy hay as this is the best kind for guinea pigs.

Each day pick him up and pet him for five minutes. Speak in a soft voice and he will soon get to know you. Guinea pigs like to sit on your shoulder so see if he would like to sit on yours. Good luck with your piggy .
It sounds like he is scared. Normal for guinea pigs. Mine is 2 years old and he scratches me like mad when I put him back. Also he more than likely is stressed. Give it some time and make sure that both food and water is fresh. Don't spoil him with hay, make him eat the Gpig food.
