Guinea Pig Chewing Bars of Cage Help?

I am a total Guinea pig lover and expert at taking care of my little hogs, However I have never had a Guinea pig that has chewed on the bars of the cage as badly as this one. I have try'd putting vinegar on the bars and she will stop for a while, then go back to it. My family and i were thinking of Vanilla extract but that is expensive. Hot sauce would probably work but I am super concerned that it would hurt her because they are such little animal and have such small tongues. Ignoring her is not an option. She is gnawing on these bars ALL the time and it is really loud! Yes we do have chew toys for her but no matter what she chews on the bars! I really need some safe suggestions on how or what to use to make her stop this. Would appreciate ANY help. Thanks fellow pig lovers!:)
Some pigs don't chew on their bars at all, some now and then, and some a whole bunch . Yours is in the last group! As for what you can do about it - not a blessed thing. Anything you do to stop the pig from chewing, even using safe anti-chew products like "bitter apple," will only cause it psychological trauma since you are removing a major source of its activity and exercise.
Until she is ready to stop on her own there is nothing you can do to stop her. I believe it is like music to the, i have had only one that was a chewer of her cage as yours is and nothing stopped her until she got bored with it.About the only thing you can do is learn not to hear it ans she will stop when she is tired to her noses.
I have 14 guinea pigs and they sometimes means they are bored or they are telling you that they have no where to run because their cage is to small. I wouldn't put anything on the bars, as it might hurt her.Make sure you have something for them to chew on, Timothy Hay helps control the length of their teeth. Guinea pigs need unlimited hay.I also buy apple tree sticks for them to chew on.
well there really isnt anything you can do. also dont feed them vineger and stuff like that it could really upset there stomack, make them ill, or kill them. also she is doing it because her teeth are probaly to long (even if they dont look like that) and she is trying to trim them down. knawing on the cages helps them. dont try to stop her she just needs to do it
I'm not an expert by no means but is your guinea pig lacking in a certain vitamin? Have you asked a vet? He may have a suggestion as to why this would take place. Maybe her teeth are growing faster then normal for guinea pigs and she is trying to wear them down ????
My brother keeps his rodents in a bar-less cage , so I wouldn't know-but I'll make a connection here. My dog always used to bite his paws, so we used to spray them with a bitter apple spray which stays on for longer. You can probably use that for your guinea pigs.
You could always try bitter apple spray, it supposedly stays on for a while. If that doesn't work, use the hot sauce. She'll lick it once and learn her lesson.
i had 7 and like 5 of them chew the bars it is because they want to get out of the cages
Try getting her a little like wooden/log hiding place for her cage but try as best as you can to prevent her from chewing on the bars. Wash the bars of with just a wet rag and maybe put a little salt wheel by the bars. TRY AS BEST AS YOU CAN SO SHE WONT CHEW ON THE CAGE!!! I had a guinea pig (rodney) that did that and he was always breaking his teeth (you know rodent teeth always keep growing and growing) I didnt find this a problem because they kept growing back until one day i went up to give him some carrotts to find he was chocking on his tooth. Not to scare you or anything but im just warning you. The wooden little home would be a good idea we got one for spike (our new guinea pig) and he loves it ... its a hiding place and something to chew on for him LOVES IT!
