My dad accidently bought Rabbit food and spent his last bit of money on it. But I have guinea pigs, and I'm worried now. We can't return it because the store is in the next town and he bought it on his way home. So can they eat it if I give them alot of vitamin C rich vegetables as well?
the rabbit food contains no nuts what-so-ever and the ingredients are almost identical.
Guinea pigs * must * have vitamin C. You could try selling it to someone who has rabbits, or give your guinea pigs extra vitamin C - buy some from a chemist.
They can eat it however it's not recommended as there are not enough nutrients in it even if you give them greens and vitamin c. If it's only a small bag that will last a week then you shouldn ' t worry. However the best thing to do is buy Gerty guinea pig food it's highly recommended by vets, and high in vitamins especially c.
Rabbit food is good only for rabbits as guinea pigs require a different amount of nutrients than rabbits as obviously they are not the same animal. And is why they make guinea pig food especially for guinea pigs.
Lulu (Guinea Pig) says rabbit food is fine. Good to see you give veg 'and vitamin C. Lulu, naughty not like veg' except CARROT ... lots please. Bloke must grow carrot greens. Not eat stuff like cabbage, kale, broccoli ... yuk. CARROT please. And rabbit food also and Guinea Pig. Also hard to get shepherds purse. And dandelion ... makes me pee lots. Want TLC and pee on bloke. He use towel, I want old style baby nappy. Very fussy Guinea Pig . Bloke must warm up towel and lots of TLC. Put on music from Chile. Take me walkies on harness and lead to woods. Oy bloke, where's my carrot.
Hi there,
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
You could feed them rabbit food, but it is unhealthy for them. Maybe just a few night's worth but watch them very carefully. If your dad spent his last bit of money on it, then that's even worse because if you feed them too much of rabbit food then they could end up needing a vet which can cost a lot of money.
Rabbit food is never recommended for guinea pigs. My friend's piggy kept getting poop stuck becuase of it. If the rabbit food conatins seeds or nuts, they must be removed as they are a choking hazard.
HOPE I HELPED!
You should never feed a guinea pig rabbit food. It is too high in calcium and can give them kidney stones. I have no idea why people on here have been telling you it is okay. They should not comment if they do not know what they are talking about. You said you cannot buy more guinea pig food but this is not good for your guinea pigs.
It would be better to get guinea pig food. While rabbits can guinea pigs are similar , they do have different needs.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com If you can, take the food back and get guinea pig food. Your cavies will be fine for a day or two as long as they have plenty of hay and veggies.
If you really have to, do it but if not DON 'T but make sure they have a LOT of vitimam C
It should be ok till you have used it up. But once it is all gone go back to guinea pig food.
yes. i think. i feed my hamster rabbit food when there is no more hamster food left at the store. its almost the same. its fine
Its okay. I would really watch him and make sure he doesn't start behaving weird though.
OK that should be OK just this once, make sure you give the vit C ;-)
yes its fine, we do it all the time and ours are fine
