What happends if you dont feed your guinea pig hay?
i just got a new guinea pig i have guinea pig pellets in a bowl and give her 2 or 3 baby carrots a day will this be enough for her pleaze help this is my first guinea pig and i want everything to be perfect
A guinea pig's teeth never stop growing, so it is much better to have some Timothy hay, which is very cheap, always by your guinea pig, or the teeth will grow to a point where is hurts too much and your guinea pig can't eat. A carrot, I think, is usually more of a treat than something mandatory, like hay. But buy Timothy Hay, not any other. Timothy hay has the right amount of vitamins and actually helps the teeth more. I understand how you want this to be perfect for your first guinea pig, so give her attention, with out another companion who she gets along with, she will get quite a bit lonely, so play with her at least, AT LEAST every other day, and give her carrots daily, do not put her to direct sunlight or cold light, and don't let her become too over heated. My guinea pig absolutely loves watermelon, strawberries, and plain grass. Do not let your guinea pig eat grapes! They are bad for her digestive system and will cause pain. Make sure she has plenty of spaces that are dark and cuddly, and make sure there is something hard she can always gnaw on. Make her space/cage large and also have an extra water bottle with Vitamin C. Most guinea pigs don't have enough Vitamins. Good Luck! :)

Using Newspaper under for the cage isn't a very good idea, I mean, you could, but regular towels you can wash and reuse are much better, try cleaning the cage, when a baby guinea pig, about once a week, as it grows older, clean it more often.
P.S. I also understand that changing the brand of a guinea pig's diet will affect it's digestive system, so what I like to do if mix some brands for variety and give it to her.
guinea Pigs cannot eat:
Iceberg lettuce
Any type of cabbage
Cauliflower
Raw beans
Potato peelings
And much more, you can look it up:

That is way too many carrots! They NEED hay for their teeth and for their digestive system.
Guinea pigs can live up to 8+ years if properly cared for. They should always be kept in pairs or groups(same sex or altered) indoors, in a cage with at least 7.5sq ft(10sq ft for males) on one level and daily floor time/handling, to be happy and healthy. I have found fleece with mattress pads underneath is the easiest and cheapest for bedding.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com http://www.guineapigcages.com/http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htmThey should have unlimited access to fresh water(no Vit C drops) and grass hay available at all times, 1/8-1/4 cup of plain guinea pig pellets(no coloured bits, nuts, seeds, or dried veggies) and 1 cup of fresh veggies per pig daily. Store bought treats/seed sticks are often unhealthy and potentially harmful.
http://www.guinealynx.info/diet.htmlhttp://www.guinealynx.info/sitemap.htmlSame sex animals living together DO NOT need to be altered, it does not change behaviour and will not make them get along. Breeding is very dangerous for the females, so do not keep intact opposite sexed animals together.
