Why did my pet rat beat up the lemon I gave her?
so, we (my family) gave our rat a lemon slice and she went crazy (in a baad way lol) she burries it under the wood chips, beats it with her little fists and digs it up again. She does this a few times and beats the crap out of it. Then, she does this little twitchy dance around the cage before hiding in her plastic house thing. What is she doing and why? haha
Happy, capricious
You shouldn't give your rat a lemon.
Lemon's have a strong smell & taste, which the rat may not like.
Also, the lemon juice could be burning it's eyes.

Dont give it anymore lemons.
the citrus might be hurting her/his eyes and nose.id take it out.
she reeeeaaallly dont like lemons
The lemon smell stimulates her and since the lemon itself is one of the more acidic citruses, the smell and oils likely irritate her. Female rats can be fed citrus in small quantities, and some particularly love oranges. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Just to share though, if you happen to have any male rats, never ever feed the males citrus. Citruses contain d-limonene, and apparently because of a protein unique to male rats, this chemical will cause cancer in them. Females however won't get cancer from citrus.

lol haha that was a cute lil story tho, aww i can picture her punching it with her cute lil fist...sooo cuteee
Two points. 1: The oils from the peel and the acids in the juice are irritants as well as stimulants, like someone else said,
and 2: Citrus fruits of any kind should be kept away from rats. It can cause urinary problems, blockages, tumors, etc. Mostly in males, but it has been known to happen to females, too. If you want to give her something nice-smelling, try a sprig of dried lavender. They love to play with it, roll on it, nibble it, and it smells wonderful, can help deodorize their cage, or maybe put a little dab of vanilla extract on the top of her head. She will have fun grooming herself to find out what that lovely smell is. :D
