8 year old daughter with new guinea pig?
my 8 year old daughter just got a guinea pig from a family member its not a baby i was just wondering what i need to buy for it and i need some exercise ideas i have a 1 year old and a 2 year old so i want to keep the guinea pig safe this is our first guinea pig so i have no idea what im doing here lol so any ideas will be greatly appreciated thanks
Chew sticks bc the teeth are open routed and will continue to grow, Timothy hay to aid in digestion, supplements of vitamin C because they can't produce there own vitamin c( examples oranges, apples, cabbage, parsley, kale, cilantro anything green but no lettuce) ceramic food bowl bc they like to stand on it and will topple over there food , water bottle over 8 ounces, bedding ( recommendation soft sorbant contains odor well) hiding place large enough for them. DO NOT ever put them in a run about ball bc this can cause back problems. Make sure they have attention daily. In order for it to exercise let it loose on an easy to clean surface and monitor it to make sure chewing is not occurring. Guinea pigs can be litter box trained place poop in back corner of litter box and just like a cat should get the hint. No pine or wood shavings as this can cause respitory problems. Congrats on ur new pet!
I use PINE bedding(with newspaper underneath it) and my guinea pig is very much alive and with a healthy pair of lungs. Cedar bedding can cause lung irritation.
