My pet rat has a hole in his stomach, help?!?
I have 7 pet rats, whom i love. I went on a vacation and my older sister was taking car of my rats. One of them died while I was gone:( I never got to see his abscess but my sister said there was a hole on the side of his stomach. I have two rat cages one piled on top of the other. One of the rats in the cage on top of the the deceased rat's cage has a bald hole like thing on his side. It is pink with little scabs on it. I separated him. I don't know what else to do. I'm only 15 and cant drive him to the vet. Unfortunately, I live with my mother, who is a ***** and doesn't care the least bit about animals. I will walk it to the vet if i must but its 8miles...so if there is any thing else i could do or if anyone knows what this is, it would be much appreciated to have more info.

Thank you!! <3
It's a good idea that you separated your pet from the rest just in case its something more serious. I doubt that it's a hole otherwise your rats insides would be out. Their skin isn't very thick so its not a hole. If anything its some kind of scratch, maybe while you where away your animals fought or your rat got caught on something sharp. Make sure that you don't just treat your pet from your own medicine cabinet. If you ever go to petco or any pet shop, you may be able to have someone look at your pet. They will basically recommend you take them to the vet but sometimes from their experience they can suggest maybe a topical ointment that would help the healing. Hope this helps.

if it was a abscess it has most likely burst in that case it will have to be put to sleep, there isn't much we can do for small animals beacuse the cost is simply to much and its likely to recur again

Your mum won't even drive you to the vet? That's harsh. :(
Can you get a friend or their parents to give you a lift? This stomach hole is definitely not normal. It could be an abcess, which you really don't want to burst. Your little boy needs a vet. If he seems irritated by the area, wipe it gently with warm water. Olive oil will help soothe it and restore natural oils to his skin. Keep an eye on his behaviour and make sure he is eating and drinking fine. Otherwise, all you can really do is give him lots of love until you can find a way to get him to a vet. Hope he stays ok! :)

Well taking a small pet to vet vet can be very costly, but if you think you can afford it then I really think that would be your best bet, the vet is the only one who could properly diagnose it.
good that you seperate it. I went on holidays and one of my fish got killed by the others. I would go on a vet website to look for a diagnosis then get a second opinion. Hope this helps xxx
