Should i buy 2 hamsters or 1?

Should i buy 2 hamsters or 1?
Im confused. Some people say that 1 hamster would die of loneliness, but 2 hamsters would either breed or fight to the death, even if litter-mates. I dont want them to breed, yet at the pet store, they're a bunch of hamsters together, and the'yre not fighting. So how many should i get?
2.. so they have a friend.

You can get one and it wont die i had one for 5 yrs you just have to play wit them . Good luck
Get 2 so that they dont get lonely and if you get two make sure they are the same sex unless you want shreds of fur and flesh everywhere or bunches of babies.
depends on how much work you are willing to put into them. 2 hamsters means more money, more responsibility, but they also keep each other company... are easily lovable, and easy to take care of.
Whatever you do please be responsible and care for your hamster correctly and sho w it love. Don't be a moron and do some research on hamster care.
If you buy a dwarf hamster, but two. They are social and are lonely by themselves. If you buy a Serian hamster or its other name Teddy Bear hamster, buy one. They enjoy living by themselves.

Had both types of hamsters and did research before I bought them.
I had a hamster a few years ago. Your better off getting one. If you get two they will fight if there both male. If there both female they most likely wont fight. Male and female...babies....so just get one. When I used to have one it lived two years. Hope this helped.
Not true (about 2)

1 Hamster would probably die earlier than normal from loneliness , even if you play with them everyday , its like us being trapped on a spaceship with only giant aliens that dont speak our language to play with

2 Hamsters , would breed if you got opposite genders , MAYBE fight if both boys , but 2 girls would be fine , they get along great , you could always take one back if they fight ? It doesn't cost much more to have two , cause you only need 1 cage , and 1 of each supply , only difference is amount of food , which hardly costs $1
It depends on breed, sex, ETC. Some dwarfs can't stay together, while others can. Mine can't, so she's by herself.
i think that you should get one because that way you can spoil it more, and besides that you would have to do double the cleaning...but that's just my opinion...

i have had hampsters
It really depends on the breed. If you're getting a syrian or a teddy bear hamster, you can only have one. They'll fight. Same with Russian dwarfs and a lot of dwarfs, really. I have two chinese dwarfs, I'm not sure if they're litter mates because the store couldn't tell me, but they never fight. Just please make sure that they are both the same sex, though sexing hamsters can be difficult. If you're hamsters breed, that can lead to cannibalism, inbreeding, and way too many hamsters. Also, it depends if you can provide a large enough habitat. Both dwarfs and regular sized hamsters will need the same amount of room, which is a lot.

Oh and please don't assume that just because they're girls, they won't fight. Females tend to be even more aggressive than males, actually.
