My rat keeps getting hangnails?
I think it might be that her nails are too long. I'm worried about her because she keeps getting them. Any help?
If you think her nails are too long, take her to the vet to get them clipped or you can try clipping or filing them yourself, but I wouldn't suggest that. Whenever you suspect her nails are getting too long just take her to get them cut and she shouldn't have this problem anymore.
Putting rough things in her cage, such as branches, rocks and bricks, is a good way of keeping her claws worn down. Rough parrot perches can also be good. Mine have some chinchilla lava perches that they enjoying sitting on.
If these aren't doing the job, clipping may be necessary. You can take them to a vet but I prefer to do it myself. On a squirmy female it may be good to have a second person. Lazier males can be done by just the one. This page offers some helpful tips. :)
