I tried to pick up my guinea pig but...?
Okay so about almost a week ago I got two male guinea pigs. We were putting in their playpen. So to get them out their cage I had to lift them in. When I put them in their playpen I picked one of them up. I feel like I wasn't holidinf him right as his legs and nearly all of his body was wriggilng loads and he was close from coming out of my hands. I was holing his bum and his top half. What should I do????
get a puppy!
He might have been nervous. Try petting, and bonding with him a little more before trying to pick him up.
He's nervous. He's a rodent. Rodents are almost always fearful of being held at first.
Only holding his top half made him feel more scared. Especially when you first start holding them, all 4 feet should be on a solid surface. Try holding him against your chest, speaking in sothing tones, and petting his head while supporting his back end. You can also try giving him treats by hand and petting him and getting him used to your presence before picking him up.

This will take patience, but it will pay off in the end.
Whatever you do. do not pick him up by his tail
Or his eyes will drop out !

my old granma told me
Clive g pigs don't have tails.
anyway you have only had them a week, give them more time to get to know you and trust you. I find males tend to wriggle more anyway and fidget but sounds like he's scared. spend some time with them in their run, get some nice veggies, we use tomato cut up small, and let them come to you to get it. talk to them and try not to make any sudden movement. they are prey animals and are usually flighty till they get used to you. give them time, attention and patience and they will get to know you, it won't be long till they start shouting at you when they hear the fridge door lol. are they kept inside or out? I find they bond much better if there inside and can see you every day. good luck and have fun with your new pet
