I felt bad and a few months ago I got a older gerbil?
She was being attacked in the pet store and I felt really bad for her. I know I had one of her older bodies at home so i put them back together and they did fine. They just sat next to each other and started to clean each other. Well I have know-est that She doesn't open her eyes much and she jumps when her friend pokes her with it's nose. So you know they are both females. I am thinking she is mostly blind. That might have been the reason why the other gerbils where picking on her or they just added them to her cage.
Well she is doing alright just wondering what I can do for her. Beside giving her a wheel holding her and food and water of course. She doesn't really like to be held she sits in one spot and rolls in a ball. So I don't hold her as much as I like but I don't want to stress her out either.
Just leave her alone because you can't really do anything to help the possibly half-blind gerbil.
There isn't much you can do for an elder gerbil. I myself have one right now, he mostly sleeps all day long. Every now and then he will get on his wheel for about 5-10 min, eat, drink, then sleep some more. I've made it a habit to give a treat at a certain time of day. So now he's always looking forward to it, that could be something you can do to make her happy? Or give her some toilet paper rolls to chew on, all gerbils love those. But basically just make sure you keep the food and water in the same spot every time you clean, if she's hard at seeing, this will help her be accustom to her surroundings and make it easier for her to get around. Good luck! =]
