I believe there's a bunny nest in my yard?
Okay, so yesterday I asked about seeing an adult bunny in my backyard (To be precise; I live in a city with no forests around, In an urban block where houses stick together and are only separated by fences, and my backyard is tiny as hell.)... so I asked what should I do about it being not a safe environment for him as unusual it is to have a wild rabbit here, calling the animal shelter or what?? and bla bla......
Now, as I went to put some food around under the bushes for him (or rather her), I heard tiny squeals that literally comes from under the earth...and now I believe there's a rabbit nest right in my backyard! The thing is.....I sure want to leave them alone, but still I can't help but want them to be secure and I still leave some food for the momma since I have no idea how she can feed herself otherwise...While they grow older is there anything I can do to make my backyard an appropriate living place for the mommy and baby bunnies??? I started by placing food under the bushes where momma spends most of her time, and securing the fences and even added a big wood plank in my gallery entrance to prevent neighbor cats and dogs to come in. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I really need some advices, I don't dare touch them or the momma rabbit as she decided to be here I'd rather let nature be. Is there some sort of food I can spread across my yard for the mommy to enjoy? Thing is, it's freezing cold out here and obviously any water I place outside would freeze....what can I do?? =/
I am really REALLY concerned about the rabbits. As you can probably tell I adore animals and my parents really don't give a crap, so I am all alone in this and I'm just a frikin' kid....
We have rabbits all over our neighborhood. Just let them be and if there are no dogs or other animals in the yard they'll be just fine.
Bunnies really love timothy hay you can try to trap them in a grate and put blankets in it so they can be warm
You have done the most important thing you can do by making your fences more secure. It would be better to put the food next to the bushes than under them because your scent might scare the mommy off. If you have the money you can buy some rabbit pellets, hay and or carrots but don't put out more than a handful or one carrot at a time. I have not heard my baby bunnies squeal so its possible that what you heard was a mouse nest. Mommy bunny (called a doe, males are called bucks) is more likely to have babies(called kits) in the early spring but it is possible that she has a nest now. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Thanks for taking an interest in nature. It can be a wonderful hobby for your lifetime...or even a future occupation. Just for future reference rabbits are not rodents ( they are lagomorphs), they are most closely related to deer.
