How to hand tame a skittish, baby Syrian hamster?
I have owned several hamsters in the past, and I had my own living in her own cage and she was very friendly because I started handling her properly when she was young so now she actually likes being held and played with. But my friend's "boy" hamster had babies by accident, and she never held any of them so they were completely untamed. And she asked if I wanted one for free since I had experience with hamsters before, so I said I could take one. so I bought him a new cage and let him settle in, it has be 48 hours, and I tried to hold him but he runs really fast and I can't catch him, the the only way I got him from her cage to mine was I had to wear gloves and it took me about 20 minutes to catch him because he was VERY fast like I was surprised because I have never had a hamster that ran away that fast before. When I tried picking her up about an hour ago, I finally caught him but once he was in my hand he just jumped, he was so jumpy. I continued to hold him, and he kept biting, but I had the gloves on. He got a bit more used to me and stopped biting but he still is very jumpy and runs away. I know it will take time before he is fully hand tamed but I'm wondering if anyone has tips on how to train a Syrian hamster to let you pick it up and not be so jumpy and run away, I mean it's not like I can yell "No!" at him like I can to my dog.
