Are my hamsters mating or fighting?
I have two dwarf hamsters. I went to the pet store and was told I had two boys but recently I found out it was a male and a female. I didn't want to take one back so I separated them. I had 2 other hamsters (males) prior to the two young dwarf hamsters I just got.
Their actions:
The male is going crazy trying to jump on the female dwarf hamster. There will be a high pitched squeak and it looks like she struggles to get away 9sometimes hitting him). Then he will chase her down, and do the same thing all over again. Shes on her back every time I break them up. Are they mating or fighting? How can I tell the difference? I don't want one to get hurt.
P.S. This only happens with the male I brought her home from the store with. I have two other male hamsters and she doesn't do this with either one. (They are older than her though. She is young)
Breeding. If you put a girl and boy animal together and their not fixed (even if their related) they will breed.
You should be keeping the female in her own separate cage. She's prob too young to even breed yet the male is in his matting stage. The younger male needs to be in his own cage, don't try to put him into the other cage with the 2 older males, they will kill him. Unless you want babies, or someone getting hurt, I highly advise you have them all separated.
