my baby rat keeps opening his mouth and making a sound like hes trying to breathe and keeps squeezing his stomach and squinting his eyes. i havent given him any sticky food or whatever. what can i do??
Blow gently and firmly into his mouth a few times to break loose any thing that may be lodged at the back of his mouth. Massage his neck gently from the top down also to try to break any thing loose that may be stuck, If he does not respond to either of these take him to an exotic Vet asap.
see if you can see if he has anything stuck. my rat koda has choked a few times. the first time it happened he really scared me, he kept gagging and drooling alot. basically if you try to dislodge whatevers stuck you could make it worse, its best just to leave them. if he can still breathe he should be fine, and whatever is stuck will become dislodged after a few hours. i know its a really scary experience when you find your rat choking
