Should I get a hamster or 2-3 mice? I have the space for both (three connected Crittertrail cages.) I was wondering which is more handle able, I can wake it up in the day time, and less costly for overall care? (bedding, food etc)
Hi there,
Well i would highly recommend the Syrian Hamster. I have one and she is soooo friendly and has such a personality.
A hamster will also be cheaper as with 3 mice they will go through more bedding as there will be more pee and poo, also they will eat more.
Another reason for choosing a hamster is that thet are overall more attractive so it is easier to handle them:)
Hope i helped!
Mice generally do not like the be handled. They are very skittish and will run away from you at any chance they get. They also stink more especially if in multiples.
Hamsters can sometimes be aggressive and won't want to be handled, but they also can sometimes be quite friendly, really depends on the hamster.
A hamster will eat more than 1 mouse, but since you're thinking of multiple mice it would probably be the same food-wise. Hamster you will use less bedding because 1. There will be less animals messing. 2. Hamsters will usually pick one area of their habitat to mess in so you can "spot clean" and do an over all cleaning less frequently than you would with multiple mice.

Personally though if you're looking to get a rodent for a pet, I would look into a rat.
Rats actually enjoy a person's company and rarely bite. They just need a few days to get used to you.
Syrian hamster all the way. Mice are really hard to handle. Syrian hamsyters are very affectionate one you get to know them. you cant wake hamsters in the day cus they are noctournal and hamsters are very cheap to care for they are known as 'pocket money pets'
Hamsters are nice, but when i was like 5 i had a pet rat and it would crawl up my arms, behind my neck, and down the other arm. ha ha so either is fine
