My hamster has 4 abscesses on her bottom .... wondering what would the approximate cost be to drain them and for meds. Thanks a lot she's only a few months old I don't want to have her be put down
I agree-it depends on how bad the abscesses are and what will be required to treat them along with whether the vet sees exotics or small animals such as hamsters. A specialist in small animals such as hamsters will cost more but know more about how to treat her but a vet that normally sees cats and dogs will probably cost less.
Are you sure she is only a few months old? Most of the hamsters in pet-stores aren't young-the only real way to tell she was a few months old would be if you bought her from the breeder or if the hamsters in the pet-store were breeding.
Call around and get prices and see which vets will even be able to treat a hamster and good luck.
Check what the charges are at different veterinary practices, but don't assume the cheapest will be the best. Ask what the aftercare would be (eg antibiotics, painkillers and post-op review). Choose the best service and the most caring vet - that is beyond price.
