ok so i got them today ii have a house water food bedding and a Wheel and i tryed to pick them up and they bit me there both males and there full grown and the one is missing half of its tale and i dnt know what to do and i didn't get them from a pet store i got them from a friend and there full grown ... i wash my hands befor and after i pick them up he gave me the cage that they where in so it smells like them so i dont know whats going on?
It seems as though they're trying to protect themselves from you. Perhaps they were neglected and didn't get very much human contact so therefore they are not used to being handled. (which is quite sad) As sad as it may be they could have been abused and don't trust humans. Do you know why one of the rats tails is half gone?
If they continue to nip/bite at you, you may need to purchase some gloves and pick them up that way until they get used to you and trust in you. Once they trust you (and you WILL know when a rat trusts you) then you wont need the gloves anymore. Just make sure that you give them lots of love and attention and they will want to give you their love and attention right back.

its because they're scared. They've just been moved, they have no idea what's going on ... and now this giant is reaching towards them and they're freaking out. Give them some time to get used to their surroundings and get comfortable with the move. Then show them your whole hand, not just a finger (it looks like food to them).
