Things to do with my rats outside the cage ..?

What things do they like to play with when they're not in the cage?

Are there any household objects that they might find fun/interesting?

What do your rats like doing?:)
Mine enjoy climbing on me and scaring my cat by leaping at her. She's started to stay away from me when I have the rats out to avoid this. And if they can find a place to hide, they'll do so.

One thing that I recently added to their cage was a digging box: a large plastic container with fertilizer-free potting soil. I hid some seeds inside for them to dig up. They've been playing in that, and making a mess, nonstop since day one. I never saw anyone have so much fun for less than $ 5.

When I do a full-clean of their cage, I put them in a cardboard box filled with styrofoam packing peanuts. They absolutely love burrowing and jumping in there.
Well I have owned 5 rats within the past 3 1/2 years and they all pretty much like to do the same as the next. They enjoy exploring and playing with one another and if they're not in their cage then that leaves lots of room for them. If you have anything they can climb on or under that is safe they will do so and have a blast. Rats are very easy to entertain outside of their cage. They will be real happy as long as they're able to freely roam about.

You could make "houses" for them to play in out of boxes and put them together for them to play in when they're not in their cage. You can use something as simple as an empty case of a 24 pack of soda to building something out of wood.
Rats are the best! My daughter taught her rat how to roll a dice back and forth to her. We let our rats hang out with us in the same room. They like to follow us around and if we let them out in the office, they will climb up the chair to sit in our lap. On nice days we let them hang out in the back yard with us. We also got them a rat carrier and would take them out on short trips to the park or pet store. You can take a look on Youtube and see some cool videos of rats that have been trained to swim in tiny pools. They dive to the bottom to retrieve things and stuff like that. For the most part they just LOVE to hang out with you.
