When I pet my guinea pig insides it cage it always seems to run away but when I take it out of the cage to pet it just stays still.
Every guinea pig is like that, but if you want to handle it easier you can get pet treats and pet it while its on your lap, do this and it will get use to you and always wants to be petted.
REMEMBER!: A good sweet treat is not always good! But if your lil 'piggy is enjoying it you can get some healthier treats.
Just wash your hands after you treat them because sometimes maybe it can smell your hand and it can smell good to them ...

My pigs do the same thing! They may always be this way, or in time won't run away. I also think they run away because they love their cage so much and do not want to be taken out, but once they are out they realize it's ok. I don't see it as anything to worry about.
Easy Psychology, Everytime you pet it, feed it. Then it will always want to be petted.
Your guinea pig is probably just shy of humans. Buy some small rodent treats and warm him up to you. he'll come around just let him stay in his comfort zone.
