is it my fault my hamster died?

i feel really guilty ... in the run up to her death she started squeaking, it made a low depressive sound. she would do it for 1-2 hours at a time. we couldnt take her to the vet because we dont have a car and the bills are to exspensive. i feel its my fault because i didnt really clean out her cage ... i forgot to feed her and sometimes give her water ... but on the day she died she had it all, id cleaned out her cage that day she started squeaking louder and it lasted longer ... she died the next day but i was in school. my mum found her cold all streched out. i want to know how she died and was it my fault, i miss her more then anything. i want another hamster but would probably not look after it. i only had bailey a year and i want her back.
No, it's not your fault. Although you should of tried to take care of it more, hamsters don't live that long. They usually live for 1 or 2 years. She may of died of natural causes. You can't know for sure though. Not to sound mean here, but your hamster is dead. She won 't come back and you can't change the fact that she's gone.
If you were close to them, you may find that they are your good companion. Next time just get 2 or 3 bottles of water for them, if you can't check them out daily. Water is very important for them. If they are lack of water within 24 hours, they would die. Please remember, food is important, but they can't live without water. Put some hays in the cage, sometimes it's good for them.
Well it's probably because you didn't take very good care of her from what it sounds, but hamsters do not have a very long life expectancy to begin with. Don't feel too guilty, but next time you have a hamster, take better care of it and it will live a few years longer.
lol poor hamster, you forgot to feed her and clean out her cage, those were your only responsibilities as a hamster owner. The hamster starved to death and died in a waste bin of its own poop.
Even the simplest of pets you admit that you won't take care of it so I would suggest that until you are sure that you can take care of an animal properly you do not take in another one. I am not trying to be mean I am just trying to make a point, a pet is a privilege and not a right. With that privilege comes responsibilities making sure it has food, water, shelter and if needed access to medical treatment.

As for it being your fault, I would say most likely indirectly the dirty environment, lack clean food and water (I am not sure to what extent you let her cage and food get to) might of shortened the life span.

I am not trying to be mean or cruel and I believe that you loved your pet and that you care for animals but caring also means you know when you are not capable to keep a pet and decide not to have one until you are.
