they are 17 days old. how old should they be before i separate them?
the mom only had a litter of 2, there is 1 boy and 1 girl, the girl i am going to let live with mom and the boy is going to go live with his dad, will they be happy like that? i am afraid the babies will miss each other: (
I wouldn't recommend keeping them together because they sometimes will fight, especially if the parents are used to having a cage to themselves.
At 21 days old, they can be separated from the mother. At about 4 weeks old, they're sexually mature, so make sure you keep them separated from one another.
They will be just fine!
okay let me tell you about my baby bliss with my Russian Dwarf Hammies;;
My Hamster Delilah had 7 babies, 5 girls, 2 boys!
When the babies were weaned i took them to the petshop so they can be bought for store credit, and i was worrying about them being sad, they actually took it well! The babies did fine in their new cage at the store and acted like they were so HAPPY!!! and i was impressed because they didnt have mom anymore but, thats nature! Delilah at first was like: WHERE THE HELL MAH BABIES? then she sensed they were grown up and sold so she took it well, and i let her have one of her babies to keep her company.

Dont worry, they will be happy!
Only put male and female together when you want breed!!
Goodluck and they will be happy!!!
I'm not sure if they are old enough, but don't worry about them missing each other. Dwarfs aren't overly friendly with each other. I wouldn't be surprised if the parents fight with them. Dwarfs usually only get along with others when they are introduced when both are young.
